An atheist web site recently displayed an unusual bit of honesty. In fact they trumpeted a fact that should have been an embarrassment. They reported on an original letter, written by Charles Darwin, the father of the evolutionary hypothesis, that is about to be auctioned for an estimated $70,000 to $90,000! The missive, hand-written, was Darwin’s response to a November 23, 1880 question from a young lawyer. The barrister, Francis McDermott asked, “Give me a Yes or No to the question, ‘Do you believe in the New Testament?'” Darwin replied the very next day: “I am sorry to inform you that I do not believe in the Bible as a divine revelation and therefore not in Jesus Christ as the son of God.”
On the face of it, this is no great shock. Darwin’s antipathy toward Christianity was clearly a motivating factor behind On the Origen of Species. His father was a so-called “freethinker” (a more polite English way of describing 19th century atheism) and his mother was a godless Unitarian, those folks who believe in nothing and everything. Ironically, Charles Darwin’s father had him baptized as an Anglican, perhaps hedging his bet on eternal life. At the time, the Senior Darwin, as the parent of Charles, would have had to renounce the devil as part of the liturgy. Such a confession was obviously not taken seriously, as the baby Darwin was to become one of the best evangelists for Satan in human history.
The purpose of this blog isn’t to debunk evolution. There’s no room for that debate here. Suffice to say that, despite some elements of logic and truth, the ultimate point of Darwin’s theory is flawed and diabolical. According to the Bible so despised by Darwin, humanity DID NOT arise from lower life forms, directed by chance and “natural selection” rather than the hand of God. If Darwin was right, there is no God and no devil. And everything that I do every day to fight demons is a pointless sham, because according to “Origen” there is only the material world and nothing supernatural exists. There is no compromise here. You cannot be a Darwinian evolutionist and a deliverance minister. Impossible. They can’t coexist. I know of no one who casts out demons who discounts the creation account of Genesis. If such a person exists, very real demons would make short work of this individual and drag him to the same hell where Darwin likely exists in eternal torment.
An encouraging word: DON’T BE ASHAMED OF CHRIST.
“I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,” Paul wrote in Romans 1:16. In America today, with pervasive Christian media and thousands of Christian organizations that’s not a remarkable statement. But in Paul’s time it was revolutionary. Christians were being killed for their faith. It was a crime not to worship the Emperor of Rome. Believers literally met in underground catacombs. To say that we today have it easier is an understatement. Think for a moment. If you lived in the time of Paul, would you be as bold as he was? If such times of persecution come again, will you be ashamed of Christ?
